March is Spiritual Wellness Month

Life is really simple, but we insist on making it complicated.

Holistic wellness focuses on 8 different dimensions, bringing in the importance of March being designated as Spiritual Wellness Month.  Spiritual Wellness involves having a sense of purpose, connection, and inner peace.  It transcends religious affiliations.  While this may be a controversial statement, being spiritual does not require one to be religious.  Rather, it focuses on the cultivation of beliefs, values, and practices that foster a deep sense of meaning and fulfillment in life.  However, when we choose to grow our spiritual wellness, we cultivate resilience, can cope with challenges more effectively, and experience overall growth.

Some practical tips to cultivate Spiritual Wellness:

1.    Meditate: it’s important to remember that meditation can be whatever you choose it to be. It does not have to mean sitting in a room, in silence and breathing.  For some, it may be engaging in prayer. For others, it may be walking outside in nature. If you do choose a more traditional sense of meditation, and don’t know where to start, try Apps like Calm, Insight Timer, or Headspace to get you started with guided meditations.

2.    Mindfulness: Mindfulness is different than meditation. Mindfulness is about being present in the moment and taking time to pause throughout the day.  It is noticing the small and large details that come across your path. It may be eating a meal, taking in your surroundings, or intentional movement.

3.    Nurture your Passions: Find what ignites your soul.  Whether it’s gardening, cooking, or painting (you don’t have to be Picasso for it to ignite your soul), engage in activities that make you happy and bring a sense of joy.  Remember: you don’t have to be an expert, you just have to enjoy it.

4.    Connect with Others: Connecting with like-minded individuals who support your beliefs provides a sense of belonging and shared understanding.

5.    Explore Spirituality: Take time to explore different spiritual practices and beliefs. Set time aside for self-reflection and contemplation to help you understand your thoughts and emotions to foster personal growth and self-awareness.

As we embrace Spiritual Wellness Month, take time to deepen your connections, and cultivate a sense of purpose, inner peace, and fulfillment.

May this month be a starting point for transformation and growth in your spiritual journey.
