Marching Towards Renewal: Embracing Transformation and New Habits
Every March, I think of the saying, “March comes in like a lion, and goes out like a lamb,” which is the embodiment of March as a Month that is perfect for embracing new habits. As the days grow longer and the whispers of spring linger in the air, March emerges as a time of renewal and transformation. Just as nature sheds its winter coat and bursts forth with new life, we too are presented with the opportunity to shed old habits and embrace positive change. Whether it's letting go of limiting beliefs, unhealthy habits, or stagnant routines, March invites us to embrace the spirit of renewal and embark on a journey of personal transformation.
Often, we start a new year in January with the mindset of “New Year, New You,” while setting resolutions that, more often than not, fall quickly to the wayside. Yet, March brings with it a new sense of renewal as we make our way out of the winter months and start the springtime transformation.
Creating new habits is key to fostering positive change and aligning with our wellness goals. Whether it’s prioritizing regular exercise, adopting healthier eating habits, or incorporating mindfulness practices into our daily routine, the habits we cultivate shape the trajectory of our lives. By consciously choosing habits that support our physical, mental, and emotional well-being, we set ourselves up for success and create a life filled with purpose.
On average, it takes 21 days to form a new habit. While this can vary, depending on the person and the habit being formed, consistency and repetition are key to habit formation. A few other tips for creating new habits:
1. Start Small
2. Set Clear Goals
3. Find Accountability
4. Celebrate Progress
It’s important to approach change with an attitude of openness and curiosity. Rather than view change as daunting or intimidating, see it as an opportunity for growth, learning, and self-discovery. As we close out March, now is the time to start thinking of what we want the next few months to embody. Embrace the change, keep an open mind, and live life to the fullest!
